Mercedes Schlapp is not the White House's strategist communications adviser. It's not an easy task for Mercedes Schlapp to be the advisor to strategic communications for the White House. However, throughout it all Schlapp remains focused on the mission that she has been assigned, and is working closely with White House's political affairs and legislative affairs departments and policy shops, as well as the broader communications operation to coordinate policy rollouts. Her focus has been on issues including school safety opiates, infrastructure, and trade. Schlapp isn't involved with journalists often in her current position. In March, she was the subject of a sudden surge in interest when it was it was announced that she would be a potential candidate to take over Hope Hicks's position as the director of communication. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough job in her role as White House's strategic communications advisor. She has to deal with a president that acts as his own communications director, multiple legal battles that can throw off the White House's strategy for messaging and Cabinet secretaries caught up in controversies of their own. Schlapp is, however, maintained her focus on her job. She works closely in conjunction with White House political affairs and legislative teams and policy shops and the wider communications team to ensure that the policies are implemented. Her main area of agenda has focused on issues like the safety of schools, trade and opioids. The reporter doesn't get to interact often in her current role. However, she attracted a lot of interest in March, after her name was suggested as a contender to replace Hope Hicks as communications director. There has been a lot of fighting. Schlapp's allies began fighting with Tony Sayegh over the media. Schlapp told that the Washington Examiner that she spoke to Sayegh to discuss a recent negative article about him.
